Burnaby, British Columbia - Friday, August 26,
2005 - Viscount Systems Inc. (OTCBB - VSYS.OB) --Representatives
from Viscount Systems have returned from the Canadian
E-justice seminar launched at The Public Service Institute,
Tungku Gadong, Brunei.
Jointly organized by the Civil Service
Institute and E-Prime Networks Sdn Bhd, and supported
by the Canadian High Commission in the country, the
purpose of the program is to modernize the administration
and delivery of justice in Brunei through re-engineering
work processes, usage of enabling technologies, strengthening
of strategic planning and management capability, and
organizational development and human resource interventions.
Steve Pineau, Viscount President and CEO
commented: "This project is an excellent example of
how MESH™ can be used to converge physical
and IT security. We already have prison applications
using our readers, voice stations and servers. This
would also involve biometric facial recognition, license
plate tracking, video camera hosting and even using
card tags to track weapons. The other companies involved
with the project specialize in IT and database integration
and as a server based architecture, MESH™
has a much more robust ability to provide key physical
security elements than older controller type systems."
In the event's opening remarks, president
of E-Prime Networks Pg Hj Mohd Suhaimi bin PPLBIDDI
Pg Hj Alauddin said the seminar is about using the latest
technology to deliver government services -- where and
when it is needed.
The guest of honour, Deputy Permanent
Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Awang Haji
Ahmad bin Haji Abdul Rahman, in his speech, said, "We
are today facing the challenge of providing public sector
services to citizens and businesses through the use
of information and communication technology. The justice
sector is no exception. The citizens and businesses
require the public services in the field of justice
that are accessible, efficient, reliable, and is able
to comply with their needs and expectations. The challenge
of implementing a solution such as an e-justice system
is a task of gargantuan proportion. An e-justice system,
if successfully implemented, will be an invaluable tool
for the attainment of justice for the country and society
in which it is developed."
Canadian High Commissioner in Brunei,
Mr. Paul SH Lau also presented his remarks before a
keynote address was made by Don Rose from the Justice
Development International Ltd on "Effecting Change:
Easing the Impact on Justice Organizations".
Bill Devey from Among International Consulting
Ltd, Shaun Caldwell from OA Solutions, and Rich Allan
from Sierra Systems Group Inc., delivered their presentations
on "The Canadian e-Justice Experience: Empowering the
Justice System."
Also present at the event were senior
government officials and Canadian representatives from
Forensic Logic Inc., Response Biomedical Corporation,
and Scintrex Trace Corporation.
